    The FreeForm Modeling system (for PHANTOM Desktop or PHANTOM Omni haptic devices) offers a fast and cost effective way for designers and modelers to create original models or modify and stylize scan data, and then output to RP systems for prototyping or milling. The system includes a comprehensive set of modeling and detailing tools, dimensional control, and import of polygon data for reference and modeling. Parting line evaluation is also included, enabling users to avoid costly production mistakes through adjustment of their models early in the design process.

    If your work requires CAD part interoperability and preparing models for manufacturing, the FreeForm Modeling Plus system has all the capability of the FreeForm Modeling system and also includes NURBS surfacing and solids tools, CAD part interoperability, and mouldable part and mould insert functionality. 

    Both the FreeForm Modeling and Modeling Plus systems include a comprehensive set of modeling and detailing tools.     FreeForm & Plus v12 - 32-bit Editions Minimum System Requirements
    The 32-bit editions of the FreeForm software are designed to run on the Microsoft Windows 7, XP Professional (32 bit edition), or Windows Vista (32 bit edition).
    We do not recommend using the home editions of the operating systems.

    Running the system requires the following:
    • At least 4GB of free hard disk space (1GB for application files and the rest for temporary and working files). Larger files may require more disk space to assure sufficient performance.
    • 1280 x 960 or higher display resolution
    • Either:

    FreeForm Modeling and FreeForm Modeling Plus v10 Qualified Configurations
    SensAble has tested and qualified the following specific configurations. Choosing one of these configurations will ensure the best possible experience when running the FreeForm system.

    The qualified systems can be configured for Windows XP Professional 32 or 64-bit or Windows Vista 32 or 64-bit. We do not recommend using the home editions of the operating systems.

    The qualified systems are robust high performance workstations and can be downgraded for economic considerations by reducing the number of processors from two to one, reducing memory and selecting a mid-range graphics card from the FreeForm-compatible graphics cards. If the user changes the processor or component types then the system is no longer qualified.

    Important Notes
    • SensAble has tested a variety of hardware platforms in combination with the graphics subsystems listed above. While we make every attempt to be as thorough as possible, hardware manufacturers change their products frequently and may be shipping newer products or have discontinued active support for others.
    • If you run FreeForm on a non-qualified system that meets the system requirements described above and experience problems, SensAble support will make every effort to help solve the problems but cannot guarantee resolution.
    • Some SensAble FreeForm users have had success running system configurations that deviate from the above. In such cases, these configurations are not officially supported by SensAble Technologies, Inc.
    • The PHANTOM Omni device is IEEE 1394A compliant. However, Sensable is aware of customers that have experienced performance difficulties with their PHANTOM devices when using controller cards with certain IEEE 1394A chipset, such as NEC, or driver combinations. In these cases, it may be necessary to update or change the 1394 controller card driver or to try a separate add-on 1394 controller card.
    • Note: SensAble doesn't officially support Mac machines; however, some SensAble customers have had success in running FreeForm with Windows on Mac using Boot Camp.

     q What types of models can I create with the FreeForm Modeling Plus system?
     a The FreeForm Modeling Plus system was designed to facilitate the digital modeling and subsequent fabrication of any type of model - from shoes and toys to sculptures and collectibles to razor handles and automotive instrument panels. Now with MGT, large product designs which require precision or are dimensionally constrained can be modeled and enhanced with SensAble's voxel based tools.
     q What is MGT?
     a MGT is "Multi-representational Geometry Technology". With it, NURBS-based models from other packages can be reused, and have highly detailed and Organic sculptured shapes of voxels. Dimensional constraints are preserved, while complex details are added easily and quickly. Subsequently, the model can be retained in FreeForm Modeling Plus or returned to the originating CAD package. Simply put, MGT offers a more flexible workflow and more creative control of the modeling process, by allowing the modeler to use the right tool for the desired result.
     q Who in an organization will use the FreeForm Modeling Plus system?
     a FreeForm Modeling Plus is geared for the sculptor, model maker, industrial designer or technically oriented CAD user who is creating complex Organic designs with elements of dimensional precision with an eventual deliverable to manufacturing.
     q How long does it take to become productive?
     a One of the FreeForm system's most remarkable advantages is that it utilizes your sense of touch. So people with little to no computer experience can begin modeling new designs with professional results within 2-3 days.
     q What formats can be imported into the FreeForm Modeling Plus system?
     a The FreeForm Modeling Plus system imports 3D models in native Parasolid® x_t and x_b, STEP, IGES (curves, solids and Surfaces), OBJ, PLY, and STL formats. FreeForm Modeling Plus also supports 2D geometry such as Adobe Illustrator® and Photoshop® files, bitmap images, and JPEG.
     q What formats can be exported from the FreeForm Modeling Plus system?
     a The FreeForm Modeling Plus system exports model data in native Parasolid® x_t and x_b, STEP, IGES, PLY, and STL formats for output to CAD/CAM; STL and ZCP formats for rapid prototyping, and BMP, OBJ, and Quicktime VR for visualisation and approval processes.
     q How do I machine the model?
     a NURBS surfaces can be created directly on the FreeForm model then exported as IGES surfaces. These can then be used in CAD systems that generate tool paths for CNC automated milling. There are also a growing number of CAD packages that will generate tool paths directly off of an STL file, so FreeForm models can be machined without having to generate NURBS Surfaces.
     q How can I get an RP model?
     a FreeForm models can easily be used by rapid prototyping systems. FreeForm models can be exported as STL files and brought directly into SLA, SLS, ThermoJet, and other systems.
     q Can I animate my models?
     a FreeForm models exported as OBJ or IGES Surfaces can be imported into various animation packages for animation and rendering. Several animation companies are already using the FreeForm Modeling system to create sets, props and characters for CGI projects.
