Typically, the largest market for 3D graphics is manufacturing. The product development process incorporates 3D graphics in all phases - from conceptual design, detailed part and assembly design to shop floor manufacturing. Within these areas are specialized requirements that can benefit from the application of 3D graphics. Digital design proliferates on the desktop. However, there is an untapped opportunity to provide this market with a practical way to convert physical models into digital models. This process has application in the following areas and is closely related to computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided engineering (CAE), and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM):
  • Retrofitting, modification
  • New product design using existing physical model as a basis
  • Tooling from physical model
  • Verifying the geometry of manufactured parts, which is an essential part of modern quality assurance and process control methods
  • Pattern regeneration
  • Rapid prototyping

Many applications exist for 3DD scanners in the medical field including:
  • Forensics
  • Prosthetic design
  • Reconstructive surgery

    Optix Scanner
The Optix 400 series is the latest offering by 3D Digital Corporation with a current update that allows detachable heads, where one base may allow the use of various heads. They provide compact, lightweight, and tripod mountable scanning with USB plug and play ease for Windows computers. The Optix scanners have the option of connecting external digital cameras in order to provide extremely high quality color texture information. This color option is available for any of the Optix scanners.

    Optix 400 Series Features
Optix 3d imaging scanners provide 4 times the resolution and greatly improved accuracy versus previous generation scanners. The weights and sizes of the scanners have been reduced for more compact packaging design. The detachable heads allow one scanner to be able to accomplish every job. The flexibility provided by the Optix 400 detachable head allows more options and easier upgrading of any unit.

    3D Scanning Products & Applications
    Integrated Scanning Solutions:
    1. Automated Registration System
In cooperation with our partner 3D Shape, we have designed a 3D scanning system that registers multiple object views automatically using an optical camera tracker.
  • Automated Registration System PowerPoint Demo Presentation
  • Automated Registration System PDF Manual
  • Automated Registration System Live Video Demo

    2. 3D Scan Inspector - Scanrobots and Optix Scanner
3DD OPTIX scanners have been successfully integrated into Robot systems by 3D Scanworks. Please click here for details.

3D Scanworks is a Reseller of 3D Digital Corporation. The Optix 400 series obtains high accuracy for partial sizes of 5 - 100 mm and for objects of 100 - 2000 mm. In combination with a robot arm, 3D Scanworks are able to provide the customer solution: 3D Scan Inspector. The Scan Inspector was developed particularly for the industrial manufacturing sector that requires a large extent of maintenance-free employment. It offers among other things the highest possible automation during the production process while respecting quality control requirements.

All the OPTIX scanners can be upgraded to the Automated Registration System and 3D Scan Inspector without any hardware modifications.

    3. Rotary Table Solution
3D Digital Corp. introduced the new Rotary Table solution to the market in January 2005. We have integrated the OPTIX 400S along with a turntable.

    4. 3D Digital to provide scanning technology for custom insole supplier FootFitting.
3D Digital Corp would like to announce it's partnership with Foot Fitting. 3D Digital scanners will be used to produce world class footbeds and orthotics. With the combination of Footfitting and 3D Digital expertise, the product will be the most advanced dynamic foot capturing technology available in the market.
