CUSTOMER STORIES
DT Hiload
Realistic simulation with Abaqus FEA from SIMULIA, the Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE application, enables DT HiLoad to ensure optimum tray performance for each custom application
The Challenge
Leading dump truck tray manufacturer DT HiLoad needed to design custom trays that would provide continuous transition of stiffness (flexibility) throughout the tray and endure under varying loads and strains.
Dassault Systèmes Response
Realistic simulation with Abaqus FEA from SIMULIA, the Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE application, enables DT HiLoad to ensure optimum tray performance for each custom application.
Benefits
Using Abaqus has enabled DT HiLoad to reduce truck tray weight 50 percent, cutting fuel costs while lowering fatigue and loads on the tray and, most importantly, increasing the payload the trucks can carry.
BAT Poland
British American Tobacco (BAT) is a global tobacco company with more than 200 brands sold in over 200 markets. BAT operates in 44 factories in 41 countries and employs more than 57,000 people worldwide. BAT Poland was selected as the strategic production hub for all of Europe, consolidating operations from numerous other countries. The number of SKUs produced would increase from 20 to 200 and then to 1,000.
The Challenge
BAT Poland had been using a mixed system for managing operations, including SAP, Kanban and a lot of paper-based and manual tracking. They needed an IT solution to handle the increase in production complexity and internal logistics of material they were about to face.
Dassault Systèmes Response
BAT Poland chose a total warehouse system from Dassault Systèmes. The flexibility of the solution enabled the automation of all materials movement and internal logistics.
Benefits
Successful consolidation of production – moving from 20 to 200 SKUs in short-term
Elimination of manual and paper-based work
Automated warehouse and manufacturing operations for full traceability of finished goods
West Virginia University
Plugging Design Gaps with Simulation West Virginia University uses SIMULIA Solutions to help analyze the design and operation of huge, inflatable tunnel plugs.
The Challenge
West Virginia University (WVU) was asked by U.S. Homeland Security to explore the development of huge inflatable plugs for use in emergency situations requiring the closing of vehicular tunnels or other large cylindrical structures. Refining prototypes in a test facility was complex and time-intensive.
Dassault Systèmes Response
WVU employed Abaqus Unified Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and CAE solutions from Dassault Systèmes’ SIMULIA to create realistic simulations of inflatable plug components and models of global plug behavior inside full-size tunnels.
Benefits
SIMULIA solutions provided predictive models that closely matched actual deployment of inflatables as seen in large-scale testing. The accuracy of these tools gives the University the confidence to reduce the amount of large-scale testing needed to refine their designs and allows them to further develop their inflatable solutions and consider applying their methodology to other infrastructure systems.
BMW Group
Moving toward Zero-Prototyping for Automotive Passive Safety
The Challenge
Automakers today face unprecedented pressures to meet and exceed ever-changing crashworthiness standards while responding to consumer demands, higher gas mileage requirements and complex, new materials. How they respond to these challenges directly impacts their bottom line.
Dassault Systèmes Response
Working closely with SIMULIA over almost a decade, BMW Group’s R&D team developed a simulation program, based on Abaqus FEA, that moved them towards a stated corporate goal of zero-prototyping for passive safety.
Benefits
Such a simulation-driven strategy yields significant savings in both costs and product development time. The engineering team now has a comprehensive view of component and full-car behavior during crash scenarios and confidence in the accuracy of their simulations. The launch of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé marks the first car platform for which zero-prototyping was accomplished for passive safety.
Yamaha Motor Company
