Not only would this character need to believably integrate with any environment around it, it would need to perfectly resemble celebrity angel investor and Lenovo Product Engineer, Ashton Kutcher.

To do the motion capture of Ashton Kutcher’s body performance, DAQRI’s team of seasoned visual effects professionals investigated the latest in motion capture techniques, and found the Xsens MVN suit to be a superior solution. A setup time of less than 15 minutes, capture-anywhere ability (a small sound recording studio) and clean animation data made the MVN a flexible, powerful performer. Animation was used either with very little cleanup, or was enhanced by animators to achieve a more dramatic effect in the experience.

Since then, DAQRI has used the Xsens suit to continue to capture dynamic virtual human performances. Its portability allows them to service busy high-profile clients on-location, without special makeup or complicated setup procedures, all vital to making the most of a client’s limited time.
